Introduction
Kimble’s Targets functionality enables you to enter targets into the system and report against them.
Targets are broken down by Forecasting Periods and comprise the following components:
- Facts, for example ‘Revenue’. This defines what is being measured.
- Analysis Dimensions, for example ‘Business Unit by Resource Type’. This defines the subjects to which the target is being applied. In this example, you would select one or more Business Units, and then specify the Resource Types belonging to them for which you wanted to set targets.
- From and To dates. These define the period over which the Target applies.
Essential Concepts
Performance Analysis
The Performance Analysis object in Kimble provides the source data for many analytical reports used in the Kimble application, such as:
- Revenue Forecast Reports (time based)
- Utilisation Reports (weekly / monthly)
- Revenue Recognition reports
- Work in Progress (WIP) reports
- Invoiced Value Reports
You can use the Targets functionality to insert target figures into the Performance Analysis object, enabling you to report against the figures when using Performance Analysis Report Types.
Facts
Facts define what is being measured and are frequently used as filters on reports. Commonly used Facts include:
- Revenue:
- Cost
- ContractedValue
- FactoredResourceUsage
Forecasting Period
A time period, typically a month, used to forecast and manage Revenues and Costs.
Adding New Dimensions
You can report against multiple Dimensions, including:
- Business Unit
- Account
- Engagement
- Element
- Resource

Reporting against Targets
Once Targets have been entered in the system, you can use different Standard Reports to compare your performance against them.
Reporting against Targets: Standard Reports
There are three standard Kimble Reports you can use with targets:
- KFIN11 Detail Forecast Revenue vs Target
- KFIN12 Frcast/Actual Revenue vs Target
- KFIN12a Revenue by Account v Target
KFIN11 Detail Forecast Revenue vs Target
Detailed P1, P2, P3 revenues by Engagement Element against any target data that may have been loaded. Revenues reflect the revenue generation and allocation rules from the Product or Product Domain.
KFIN12 Frcast/Actual Revenue vs Target
P1, P2, P3 Revenues by Engagement Element against any target data that may have been loaded. Revenues reflect the revenue generation and allocation rules from the Product or Product Domain.
KFIN12a Revenue by Account v Target
P1, P2, P3 Revenues by Engagement Element against any target data that may have been loaded. Revenues reflect the revenue generation and allocation rules from the Product or Product Domain.
Reporting against Targets: Custom Reports
New or existing Reports can be customized to include Targets. A Performance Analysis Report Type must be used. Typically, the report will be filtered by a Fact (such as Revenue) and both Forecast and Actuals. Targets are included and summarized by a Dimension (such as Resource).
